Under the Mesquite
By Guadalupe Garcia McCall

In this beautiful novel in verse, Lupita struggles not only with your typical teenage challenges but also those that come along with being a recent immigrant to the United States and finding out your mother has cancer.  Her close-knit family, acting and writing help her to get through difficult times.

This is a perfect book for anyone who has lost a loved one, is an aspiring writer or actor or just likes a good story about growing up and finding your place in the world.  Check it out!
